Welcome to Salem Elementary HSA
Happening at Salem
A Holiday SCRIP gift card order will be coming home on this week, with pick up dates of December 17th & 18th. This is a convenient way to do your teacher gift and household shopping, while earning money for Salem. Buy the gift cards for full face value, redeem them for full face value, and our school receives a percentage as revenue! We have added some new restaurants for this order including: Carrabba's Italian Grill, Cheesecake Factory, and P.F. Chang's. The HSA is also holding gift cards for Dunkin Donuts $10, Stop & Shop $25, and Starbucks $10. If you would like to purchase one of these cards or have questions about the Holiday SCRIP order, contact Cathy Galanis (email@example.com or 917-750-9468).
Holiday Drive & Gift Cards
The Port Washington Parents' Council is coordinating the annual Holiday Drive for local families in need. If you would like to purchase gift cards to contribute toward this program, please send them in an envelope to the attention of our Salem HSA Outreach Chair, Dana Brett by December 12th.
Birthday Book Club
Is your child's birthday in December? Consider purchasing a book from your favorite bookstore and send the book to school with your child on the day of his/her regularly scheduled library visit. We will photograph your child with the book and display it in the program showcase in the cafeteria. Donating a book to the Library Media Center in honor of your child's birthday helps our library collection grow, and makes your child feel special at the same time! Click here to learn more about the Birthday Book Club and review the list of books our library needs. Questions? Please contact Gail Fox (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Fifth Grade Spring Trip
The HSA in conjunction with the 5th grade teachers has secured a fabulous end of year trip for our graduating class. The 5th grade will seeing the brand new broadway show Disney's ALADDIN on Wednesday, June 18th. This trip will also include lunch and a workshop with the cast of the show prior to the performance! Disney never fails in the area of exciting entertainment, and no doubt our 5th graders will have a wonderful time sharing this end of the year experience together. Please mark your calendars with this date and if you have any 5th grade activity questions or would like to volunteer for one of the 5th grade committees please contact Linda Schwirzbin (email@example.com).
Friday, 12/6! Send your child in with $1.00 to purchase this crunchy snack. Popcorn is sold during all lunch periods, but only after the children have finished eating their lunch. (This a fundraiser for the 5th grade). If you would like to volunteer and help sell popcorn during lunch periods, please contact Sona Hyde (firstname.lastname@example.org).
It's time for SALEM SPIRIT DAY again on 12/10!
This month we will be collecting gently used, clean bath towels and travel sized personal care items (toiletries) for the Mary Brennan Soup Kitchen in Hempstead, New York.
Please bring any items you wish to donate to the Salem School lobby on December 10th.
The Mary Brennan Soup Kitchen is part of the Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN). They provide a hot lunch to hungry and homeless Long Islanders every Monday - Friday. Guests of the Mary Brennan INN are also provided with a hot shower if they would like one. The INN goes through many towels a day as the guests are encouraged to take the towels with them. The Mary Brennan INN also provides each guest with all necessary personal care items. You can find out more about the Mary Brennan INN by visiting their webpage www.the-inn.org.
Please stop by the outreach bulletin board to see all the amazing things we have accomplished! Thanks for your support!
Don't forget to wear your Salem red or Salem apparel!
