CONVERSATIONS WITH THE PRINCIPAL:

Please join us for an informal conversation with Mr. Shields about any topic of interest. Addtionally, we will have a guest speaker from the Board of Education to discuss the bond proposal and any questions you may have. We hope that you can join us!
The next order will be delivered MONDAY, January 26th from 2:30-3:30 PM. The deadline to get your order in is midnight on THURSDAY, January 22nd. Start the New Year off fresh by placing an order with Farmigo! Remember, it is not only produce! They have just added fresh sliced turkey and pickles! There are baked goods (many gluten free), frozen meals, homemade stocks, dairy, meats and seafood. The list keeps growing! Proceeds go directly to our HSA!!

GREEN WEEK IS COMING AND SALEM'S ANNUAL BOOK EXCHANGE:
Salem's Annual Book Exchange is February 4th! This is part of our celebration of Green Week. Please put aside the books your kids are ready to pass on. We will start collecting books mid-January. Any questions or if you'd like to help with this event or any activities relating to Green Week, please contact Melissa Khalil (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Is January your child's birthday month? If so, consider buying a book to send into school with your child on his/her regular Library day. It is a special tradition that we hope to continue because it makes the children feel good and it also helps our library collection grow! Questions? Saturday, January 24th at 10am Linda, from Frank's Pizza will once again come to Salem for a terrific morning where you will learn how to make pizza and calzones! It is $10 per kit, which will make 1 pizza and 1 calzone. Bring them home, bake and Saturday lunch is taken care of! It's Coming.... Salem's Reach for the Stars Box Top Tournament will take place from Jan 26th-Feb 12th!
There will be a winner in each grade plus a Grand Prize Winning Team! More details will follow. All submission made this school year WILL count toward the contest AND earn a Panera Bread Cookie for every 25 sent in before the contest begins. (Totals will not be posted until the contest officially starts and submissions made after the start of the contest will not earn the cookie rewards.) AGATE & SEPTA News
Please join us for The Science of Assessing Student Achievement, a panel discussion with Dr. Catherine DiMartino, Dr. Karen Jackson, and Dr. Maggie Barber of Hofstra University on January 27th at 9:30 a.m. at the Port Washington Public Library. These experts will share information about test development, test reliability and validity, the strengths and weaknesses of achievement tests, the use of field testing and the public policies between Pearson and the State Education Department.
